Files Menu

Most of the items in the Files dropdown are self-explanatory and merely provide another way to navigate around the program.

There are some scanning tools in the dropdown list that deserve special attention.

Candlestick Scan

Candlestick Scan

You can scan for either Bull or Bear candlestick signals in a single session but not both at the same time. You can open a second candlestick scan window at the same time to accomplish the same purpose. The scan results are automatically saved in the OS or OB watchlist replacing any previous content.

The scan includes the most important candlestick single and multiple candle patterns. The scan also includes some trending filters and resistance price breaks to greatly expand the usefulness of the scan. Unless you built it yourself you are not likely to find an equally comprehensive candlestick scanning method in any other software.

The patterns and peculiar names were adopted from the work at candlestickforum.com.

This manual does not contain a detailed description of each separate candlestick pattern and formation. We do, however, cover many of them in the Tradingfives blog and in separate training videos. The practical value of candlestick trading cannot be overemphasized. You owe it to yourself to learn everything you can about candlestick trading. There are many YouTube videos on the subject.

Momentum POP

This scan alerts on trending stocks that are in position to reverse momentum on today's daily bar or the most recent hourly bar. These alerts are not trading signals. Alerts must be placed in context of the stock's Market Location and technical strength. The results of this scan appear in the OB and OS lists on the Market Location page.

You can select which lists to scan with the radio buttons.

Alert Email Setup

The Trend Charts panel allows you to view up to nine charts that update automatically in near real-time. The Trend Charts panel has a user controlled section that allows you to set an alert on any chart in the panel. You can alert on all nine charts if desired. You can have these alerts emailed to one email address of your choice. You must click the YES radio button to activate this feature for each session. The choice to email alerts does not persist between sessions.

We have had the most success using gmail as the sender. The default SMPT and Port Number are set for gmail. You can experiment with other email SMPT clients.

Manage Stock Splits

stock splits

Server A sometimes presents daily data adjusted for stock splits. Sometimes it does not. Server B and Server C never automatically adjust daily data for stock splits.

You must manually enter stock split information exactly as shown in the above example to affect daily data from Server B and Server C only. Enter information only for the most recent stock split.

The Payable Date must be in the format yyyymmdd. The "dd" portion represents the two digit day of the month. Stock split information is usually presented on web sites with a record date, the date that the stock split first became effective. You must enter a day date in the table that is 1 less than the record date. For example, if a web site said that ABC split 1 for 5 on July 10, 2016, you would enter the Split Ratio as 1:5 and the Payable Date as 20160709.
